Family Updates

As you may remember, for my birthday I received two Alpaca families - now I am happy to report that I have FINALLY finished re-dressing them, and am very happy to introduce the Woolly Family!
As you can see, the family consists of father Andre, mother Ariane, and their four children:  daughter Joy, son Angel, and identical twin baby boys Gabriel and Tomas.
The babies have kept the rompers they came in, and I have obviously re-dressed the second girl figure to create Angel.  But what has happened to the other set of parents, you may be wondering?  Meet Diego and Darrell Woolly!
They are Andre's parents, and are very pleased to be sharing a new house in Macadamia Grove with their son and his young family.  Diego is wearing the pants he came in, but I have made him a new shirt, and his glasses came with the Chocolate Rabbit grandfather that I also received for my birthday (more news on Monsieur Chocolat another time, I promise!).  Darrell has a whole new outfit, including a dress and wire-rimmed glasses, all of which I made myself.  This is my first attempt at making Sylvanian glasses, and they are not entirely perfect, but I am quite happy with them.  Mrs Woolly seems pleased, anyway.

I have built the Woolly family's house out of a cardboard box, and I am rather pleased with it, but am still waiting on some little hinges I ordered on ebay, to attach the front door.  Hopefully they will arrive soon, and then the Woollys can give you a tour of their home!

In the meantime, I have more critters to introduce:  the new and improved Thistlethorn family!  The Thistlethorns have been on my Meet The Families page for some time now, but I have always harboured a not-so-secret wish for some grandparents for the Thistlethorns.  I can't imagine why Tomy never did this, I just think they would be adorable!

Anyway, a little while ago I went to a garage sale to pick up a couple of Sylvanian buildings, and who did I find, but a lovely little Thistlethorn family in beautiful condition, and being sold at a steal!  They insisted on coming home with me.  Now of course, I had the wherewithal to realise my dream of Thistlethorn grandparents - but what was I going to do with all those children?!  Caitlyn and I discussed this a bit, and came to the conclusion that after all, what could be more natural than an enormous family of mice?  So now my Thistlethorn family looks like this:
I have changed Ash's age a little, to accommodate the extra siblings.  Interestingly, the "new" Thistlethorns are different than my older ones - they have furry tails, bigger eyes, and are generally slightly larger.  This is good, as the children now have slight variations in their faces, fur, etc.  I have decided that the furry tail gene is a recessive one, smooth tail being dominant.  This explains everyone's tails satisfactorily, as I can pretend that the grandfather had a smooth tail (the one flaw with the more recent acquisitions is that the father figure is missing its tail).

Thistlethorn grandparents will be coming soon!   :o)

Thanks for reading - and stay tuned for more updates coming soon to Macadamia Grove!

  1. Hi GreyRabbit!
Wow! The Woolly grandparents look amazing and the clothes seem very professional! You must be a very good sewer!
I love the idea of combining the two alpaca families to have a son, daughter and two babies. I find too many families nowdays are brotherless and with only one baby. I love what you've done!
Having a big mouse family is a wonderful idea! The Thistlethorns are gorgeous, you're so lucky to have them! I can't wait to meet the grandparents!
I read your family bios and they're great! 'Life on the Rails' sounds intriguing- I would love to read it! It just goes to show what can be achieved with a little encouragement from others!
Looking forward to the next updates!

    1. Thanks Kelsie! I agree that it is a bit sad that there don't seem to be many official brother figures coming out these days. Sylvania needs boys! :o)
I do feel lucky to have the Thistlethorns - they are one of my favourite families.

  2. Hi Kelsie!
You did an amazing job customizing the second set of Alpacas. I love the grandparents! You´re very good at sewing! The shirt looks like an official one with those tiny buttons and the grandmother´s dress is lovely, both the design and the fabric you used suit Darrel perfectly. The cherry on the cake are the glasses, specially the ones you made.If I ever find this family at a reduced price, I´ll buy it to have my own Alpaca grandparents (I would have to buy their outfits though. Mwy sewing skills are very poor) I also got The Alpacas on my birthday. I love them but I haven´t unboxed them yet.

Congrats on finding an extra Thistlethorn family, specially at a bargain price! I think it´s great they are now such a big family. I´m looking forward to meeting the grandparents! I´m sure they´ll look very cute. This family is one of the cutest mice families.

    1. Thanks Cutata - but I'm not Kelsie, I'm GreyRabbit!

Thank you for your lovely comments though. The buttons are cute aren't they? I bought them on ebay - they are so tiny! Only one of my needles would fit through the holes...

  3. Hi GreyRabbit!

I've enjoyed reading about your extended Woolly and Thistlethorn families together with their biographies. I think Angel looks the "proper little lad" in his yellow trousers, and your grandparents are wonderful. Your solution to the Sylvanian missing-boy epidemic is lovely to see, and your clever needlework is special throughout.

I'm quite partial to the facial shape of the Hazelwood/Hamilton mice/hamsters, so the Thistlethorns are naturally another family to whom I was attracted. I'm pleased you were able to add to your collection. I received my first Thistlethorns in the post today, and like some of your family, a couple have missing tails too. I guess one advantage is that is easier for them to sit down!

  4. Thanks Jackson! You are so lucky to have the Hamilton hamsters - Caitlyn and I would love some of them, but it just isn't in our price range (what with the shipping to Australia etc).

  5. Hi, GreyRabbit!

This is my first time visiting your blog. Your families are adorable. Very creative, turning the Alpaca parents into grandparents and the extra sister into a brother. Love the names. The Thistlethorn family is also cute. I am excited to see your next post.

Here is the link to my blog, lifeofamaple.blogspot.com

    I hope you like it!

  6. Hi GreyRabbit!
You did a wonderful job with the Woolly family! It's so sad that they're not really making brothers anymore, Angel looks great in his yellow overalls!
The grandparents also look perfect! Love those glasses; great job!
I'm looking forward to seeing their home and the update on Monsieur Chocolat!

The Thistletorn family sure has grown! Always nice to get a good deal. :) I agree that it makes perfect sense to have a big family of mice. And the recessive gene idea fits perfectly. Great!

    1. Thanks Ayrell!
I have been having a bit of bother finding fabric for Monsieur Chocolat's clothing - but my husband may have come to the rescue, so hopefully I will have a Rabbit Update reasonably soon. I have been busy in the new area of the village though, so that update will probably come first!
