Caitlyn Hazelnut's Christmas Presents

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas this year.

Today I'd like to show you some of the presents I received this year:

I was also very lucky to receive an Applewood Department store:

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas, and best of luck for the New Year!

GreyRabbit's Christmas Presents

Hello to all our Sylvanian friends!  I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!

I was very happy to find some Sylvanians in my presents this year - it's quite a modest collection compared with last year's Sylvanian-fest, but that's because I received lovely non-Sylvanian gifts this year, too (thank you, family!)

I was especially excited to see the Border Collie family!  They are one of the families released for Sylvanian Families' 35th anniversary year, and they are very lovely.  They have very friendly faces.  I hope to introduce them to you properly soon (complete with names etc).

Also my Grunt pig family is waiting impatiently to receive this Fruit Wagon - they will now be able to sell some of the produce they grow straight from the farm.

Rounding things off is some bathroom gear which will come in very handy, and the makings of a takeaway pizza shop which will be based in Town (I wouldn't like to step on Caitlyn's Fielding family's toes by opening another pizza place in Macadamia Grove!).  Not sure who will run the new pizza shop yet;  I shall have to think about it.

Finally, one last special present:  a gorgeous little Christmas dress, made for me by Caitlyn Hazelnut!  Here it is being modelled by Isla Slydale:

She is going to get to keep it, too (much to Priscilla Thistlethorn's disappointment.  Priscilla needs to learn though that not all new dresses are automatically for her!)

I hope everyone was able to have a lovely Christmas (even though it may have looked a bit different than usual for some people).  I'd love to hear about any Sylvanian gifts you may have received!

Woolly Alpacas' House Tour

I have been running shamefully behind in entering this year's Craft Challenges on the Sylvanian Families Forum!  I have finally finished my entry for the "Interior Design" challenge though, so I am posting it even though it is very late!

In fact, this could be considered Interior and Exterior Design, as in this instance I built the actual house.  It was made from a couple of different sized gift boxes, plus extra cardboard for the roof.  Here is the outside (just the house itself, I'm afraid - it is not yet in situ with gardens or anything:

And here is an overview of the inside of the house:

It seems that Mr Woolly (Senior) had not left yet when I took this photo!

Here are some closer shots of the ground floor - the only crafting I have done here is the wallpapering, the pictures on the walls, and the photo frame on the desk.

First, the main living area - this is where the family relaxes, works and socialises.  They also eat their meals in the lounge area, as they prefer a more relaxed, informal way of dining.

Here is a closeup of Mr and Mrs Woolly's desk.  This is where they do their writing.  It can become a very busy, messy area when both of them are working on books at the same time!  At the moment it is fairly neat, although Andre has left some pages of his latest manuscript out...

Here is the kitchen.  Ariane likes to grow fresh herbs near the window.

Moving up to the middle floor, we find Andre and Ariane's bedroom:

In this room, in addition to wallpapering and printing the picture frame, I made the curtains, pillow, and patchwork quilt.  As you can see, Andre and Ariane love bright, happy colours!

Right next door is the children's bedroom:

The bunk beds belong to Joy and Angel.  They share the little bedside table (I made the table using oversized popsicle sticks).

The twins have little matching yellow beds, each with a different pirate motif on the mattress.  They also have matching red blankets, each monogrammed with their initial.

I made the beds by carving them out of some yellow plastic things that Husband brought home from work (they were part of the packaging for something)...

The top floor of the Woollys' house is comprised of a central bedroom belonging to the Woolly grandparents, plus a very small room on each side.  Here is Diego and Darrell's bedroom:

Here I made the curtain and cushions, as well as the paper bits and pieces.  Their actual bed is one I got in a second hand lot - I think it might be a Forest Friends one...(?)

On one side, the bathroom can be found - or at least the bathroom door.

This is actually a cardboard structure that can be pulled out to reveal a space behind - this "imaginary" bathroom is very useful as it means the Alpacas can have a bathroom without me having to buy an actual bathroom set (or to try to fit it in somewhere!).  Also, the space behind the "door" can be used for storage.

On the other side, there is a more official storage space - the Woollys' attic room.

And that's it!  I hope you have enjoyed this little tour around the Woollys' home.  Hopefully next time we visit we will find the Woollys at home - perhaps Darrell will offer us one of her delicious cookies!

Christmas Presents!... and Changes...

Hello all - GreyRabbit here!  As 2019 comes to an end, there are a couple of things I would like to say...

Firstly, I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!
As far as presents are concerned, I was very spoiled this year - and my family certainly enthusiastically embraced the idea of buying me toys for Christmas!  Would you like to see what I got?

I am very excited to have received a Field View Mill - it is such a pretty building!  Also a Log Cabin, and not one but TWO Cedar Terraces!  This is fantastic as now all my Sylvanians have somewhere to live - even the new ones!
Speaking of which, I also received the Periwinkle rabbit family and Spotter meerkat family - both second hand, but in lovely condition - as well as a lovely selection of furniture.  Here is a more detailed picture of the smaller items:

The dress on the right was made by my lovely daughter Caitlyn, and is intended for Joy Woolly.  Here she is modelling it:

Joy is very pleased with her new dress!

But wait - there's more!  My husband also had an extra special present for Caitlyn and myself to share - a beautiful House on the Hill!  This is our favourite house, and we never thought we would get it.  It's retired now, and due to its size, the shipping cost on second hand ones usually puts them well out of our price range...

The cute cushion in this picture is from my mum (it is a shared present too), and the table they are both sitting on is another of my presents from Caitlyn and Husband - it will form a new part of Macadamia Grove.

The second thing I wanted to mention is that a bit of a change has occurred here at Sylvanian Sunshine - you may have already noticed.  My daughter, known as Caitlyn Hazelnut here and on the SF Forum, has decided not to continue her own separate blog, but to share mine instead.  This makes sense, as all our critters share the same neighbourhoods, so it seems sensible to keep all their stories together too!  So a big "Welcome!" to Caitlyn as a new author on OUR blog!  :o)

Speaking of which...

Hi, I'm Caitlyn Hazelnut, GreyRabbit's daughter. I am excited to become part of Sylvanian Sunshine, and would like to share with you the Christmas presents that I got this year:

This year I received the Fielding mouse and Cottontail rabbit families, the Baby Tree House, two baby blind bags (baby band series), a second-hand Li'l Woodzeez bakery and quite a lot of furniture. I also received the Farthing dogs and and lovely Mcburrows mole (second-hand).
I feel very lucky to have gotten so many lovely Sylvanians this year!

Back To School

Some weeks ago, the Sylvanian Families Forum moderators announced a special "Back To School" themed challenge.  For this challenge, we were tasked with featuring a Treefellow owl in a back-to-school themed story, with a maximum of four photographs.  I can tell you it was VERY hard narrowing it down to just four pictures!  Here is my entry - I hope you enjoy it!

*********************************************************************************

Sarah Patches was going back to school.

She had been looking forward to this day, ever since her family had decided to stop their travelling lifestyle and settle down in Macadamia Grove.  Her younger brother had never been to school before, as they had both been homeschooled on their travels.  Sarah, however, remembered her first year or two of primary school quite fondly, and had been so excited when she received her letter of acceptance to Bottlebrush Academy.  She had read all the booklets the school had sent – twice – and her schoolbag had been packed for weeks.  Now, she was finally – finally! – walking with her mother up the path to Bottlebrush Academy – and suddenly she felt shy and a little panicky.  She hadn’t been to a real school in a long time, and never to high school.  What if she didn’t fit in here?  What if the work was too hard for her?  What if she didn’t make any friends?
Just then, her mother squeezed her paw, and smiled at her.
“Don’t worry sweetheart, you’ll be just fine.  You know, it’s lots of other kids’ first day here, too – you won’t be the only nervous one.”
Sarah nodded, took a deep breath, and followed the stream of students toward the front doors.

As it was Sarah’s first year, she was expected to come with a parent to meet the Headmistress, Miss Treefellow, in her office.

“Well now, whooo have we here?” said Miss Treefellow, as they entered.  “Ah, Miss Patches.  Dooo sit down.  I am Arabella Treefellow, Mrs Patches, how do you dooo?”
Sarah had been rather dreading this interview, but to her surprise she found that Miss Treefellow was actually very nice.  She commanded respect, certainly, and her manner was very proper, but she spoke kindly to Sarah, and there was a sparkle in her eye that showed when she spoke about her school and its students.  Clearly Miss Treefellow loved her job, and was very good at it.
“I see that you are a very well-travelled young lady, Miss Patches.  I must say your work samples are quite impressive for your age.  Someone has taught you well thus far,” Miss Treefellow said, inclining her head to Sarah’s mother.
“Sarah tries very hard at her school work,” said Mrs Patches.
“Lovely to hear,” said Miss Treefellow.  “May I ask what subjects you like most?”
“I like languages, Miss Treefellow,” Sarah replied, “but my favourite subject is history.”
Miss Treefellow looked pleased.
“Well,” she said, “I shall look forward to seeing you later this morning in my French lesson, but for now, we shall join the other first-years for a quick tour before the welcome-to-school concert – unless you had any questions, Mrs Patches?”
Mrs Patches hadn’t, so they all went out into the corridor where the other first-years were waiting with their parents.

Mrs Treefellow was very proud of her school, and it showed as she led them all on a tour around some of the building and grounds.  They saw the large sports oval, and the tennis court, and a pleasant grassed area where, according to Miss Treefellow, many children chose to eat their lunches, or spend free time.
Next she took them back inside, and they climbed the stairs all the way up to the cafeteria on the top floor.
“There is another outdoor recreation area just up those stairs, on the roof – it is quite safe, all fenced of course – that is another popular place at lunch times,” said Miss Treefellow.  “The cafeteria is where you will come to buy your lunch if you have not brought it from home, and if you peek across the benches, you can also see the kitchen area.  That is where the lunches are prepared, as well as being the classroom for your weekly cooking class – here at Bottlebrush Academy we believe every student should learn independence, and the cooking class is part of this.”  Several of the parents looked quite impressed at this.  Sarah looked at the kitchen with interest, as she knew that this was her Aunty Dorothy’s domain.  It was empty at the moment though – Aunty Dorothy was also the school’s House Mother, and was probably helping the boarding students to settle in for the term.

Next, Miss Treefellow showed them a large classroom with desks and a blackboard, as well as an open-plan one that was used for music, dance and drama classes.  It was also the venue for school assemblies, and was currently filling up with older students.  Sarah could hear the sound of musical intruments being tuned.  Finally, it was time to say goodbye to their parents.  Sarah gave her mum a big hug.  Miss Treefellow then invited the parents to sit at the back of the room, where chairs had been set out for them.  She showed the first-years where to sit too, and then took her place at the front of the room.  The students quietened down immediately.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to welcome you all – parents, teachers, and students alike – to Bottlebrush Academy.  I wish all our students a happy, productive year of learning.  I hope that you will work hard, but also enjoy your time here at school.  Without further ado, I would like to introduce our talented music students, led ably by Mr McWalkies, to perform the school song.”

Later, as Sarah settled in to her first class, the chihuahua girl she had been placed next to gave her a shy smile, and said “Hello, I’m Lillie.  What’s your name?”
“Sarah,” said Sarah.  “Is it your first day too?  I don’t know many people here yet.”
“Me neither,” said Lillie.  “I live at the Seaside, and the only other kids from there who come to this school are in the senior class.  I don’t know anyone in this class.”
“Well, now you know me,” Sarah said, with a smile.  “Shall we sit together at lunch?”
“That would be awesome!” Lillie replied.

The work wasn’t a problem either – nearly all the first-years were beginners in Miss Treefellow’s French class, and even among the second-years there seemed to be different levels of ability in the subject, so Sarah didn’t feel out of place at all.  She began to relax a little, and then to become excited again about all there was to learn!  It looked as though coming back to school was going to be just as wonderful as she had hoped!

*********************************************************************************

The transformation of Caitlyn's Grand Hotel building into a high school / boarding school has been a project we always intended, but have never quite got around to.  We had beds in the dormitories, and Caitlyn had her School Music set installed in the building, but we had never quite got around to fitting out the classrooms and other rooms.  The "Back To School" challenge was the perfect excuse to get it done!  Caitlyn had already decided which rooms of the building would be which.  I built the blackboard, the cupboard under it, and the blue desks.  I made special school uniforms for the music students (the other students will have different uniforms, but Bottlebrush Academy has a free dress day on the first day of term).  I also made the textbooks & exercise books (which Caitlyn helped with), the paints, paintbrushes, chalk and glue sticks.  Caitlyn also kindly allowed me free rein to include some of her Sylvanians in the scenes - especially Miss Arabella Treefellow!

I had a lot of fun crafting for this challenge, and setting the photos up - it has been a while since I did a biggish story with our Sylvanians!  Being part of the forum is great for getting inspiration, and for connecting with a lot of other people who appreciate these little critters and the fun we have with them!

Birthday Presents!

Wow, what with Christmas, my daughter's birthday, and my recent birthday, Macadamia Grove has grown enormously over the past few months!

Thank you to all my lovely family and friends who helped celebrate my birthday this year - I had a great time, plus I was very spoilt!  I received some wonderful Sylvanian Families related gifts that I would like to show you:

Macadamia Grove is excited to welcome the Woolly Alpaca family, and the Grunt Pig family!!  I am very pleased to have received two sets of the alpacas, as I want to make the extra set of parents into custom grandparents, and the extra girl into a brother (what is with the lack of boys in the new Sylvanian Families sets??)

The Grunts were bought second hand (they are a retired family), so I feel very lucky to have got the rare triplets as well! Constance seems to have abandoned her dress for a random pair of green overalls, and I'm not sure they are really her, so Caitlyn is in the middle of making her a dress (this will be part of my Mothers Day present).  No doubt the green overalls will be appreciated by someone else in the village!

Monsieur & Madame Chocolat (aka the Chocolate Rabbit grandparents) will be residing in Town - I am very excited to have them, as I have Plans, especially for the grandfather and his marvellous moustaches...  stay tuned...
The Japanese furniture sets were a lovely surprise from some family members who visited Japan earlier this year.  The lounge room set is awesome, as the fabric on the seats can be easily changed, making this set a very easily personalised one.

And last but not least, a beautiful home-made dress from Caitlyn - here is a picture of the alpaca girl modelling it (although it is actually destined to belong to Sarah Patches).

I will be updating my Meet The Families page to include all the new arrivals soon, but I want to make clothes for some of them first.  There are also big changes afoot for our permanent display setup, so stay tuned - it's all very exciting!

Christmas Presents!

So Christmas is over for another year!  That's a little bit sad, as I love Christmas - it is my favourite time of year.  But I'm also very happy, as I have a whole new set of Christmas memories to add to my collection.  :o)

Also, now that all the Christmas craziness has died down a little, we have the fun of looking at all the lovely presents our family gave us!  I feel very lucky this year - I received many beautiful presents; some Sylvanian, some not, but all very much appreciated!  I would like to show you my Sylvanian Families presents.  Here they all are:-

Three new families (and a Freya) - how exciting!!

Let's have a closer look at them.  First, meet the Thistlethorn Mouse family:

Aren't they cute?  This family was given to me by my lovely Mum and her husband.  They were bought second-hand (for those who don't know, they are a retired family, and no longer available new), but they are in mostly beautiful condition (the brother is missing his tail, and the sister has a little flocking damage to one arm, neither of which you can really see when they have clothes on.  I am going to create a back story to explain the lack of tail though - stay tuned for that in a future post).  I am in LOVE with these mice!

You may have noticed a little blue dress in the foreground of the main picture - this is a lovely dress that my daughter Caitlyn gave me for Christmas.  She made it herself, and it is for Priscilla Thistlethorn (the sister figure) - here she is modelling it:

Next we have the Hedgehog family.  I knew I was getting these from my wonderful husband and daughter, and they have been VERY eagerly awaited - this is one of my favourite families of the whole range, past and present.  They were actually the catalyst for me getting back into collecting my own Sylvanian Families, as they are not a family Caitlyn wanted for herself (much to my disappointment at the time).  At some point I suddenly thought to myself, "Well, why shouldn't I have them for me?"  Aaaaand, the rest is history...

Look how CUTE they are!!!  They each have a little brush or comb to groom their spikes!  The cuteness!!  I have decided to name them the Prickles family.

Last but not least, I am pleased to present the Outback Koala family!

They are also a gift from Husband and Caitlyn.  As you can see, this family is somewhat different from most, as not only are both the children girls, but they are also both babies - one jointed standing baby, and one sitting.  A very cute feature of this set is the sling that either Mum or Dad can use to carry one of the babies, whilst still keeping his or her arms free:

So the baby koala can be carried on its mother's back, just like a real baby koala!  :o)

At first I mostly wanted the koalas because I thought it was weird that we didn't have any Australian animals living in our corner of Sylvania, but every time I saw them in a shop, I liked them more and more.  Now that I have them, and have had a chance to get them out and see them properly, I love them to bits.  They will be a very important addition to the village too, as both my Outback parents are going to be doctors - they will be the first medical professionals we have had!

The final animal added to my collection is little Freya Chocolat - she will get to keep her official first name, as the Freyas Caitlyn owns have both been given different ones.  It looks like we are going to end up with a chocolate rabbit family living in Macadamia Grove, although we don't have any parents yet, just lots of kids!  I actually really like my Freya's red and white spotty dress, it is very pretty.  My Freya came with the Cosy Cottage, but she isn't going to live there.  The Prickles hedgehogs are going to be the lucky ones to move into this cute little house.

I also received a Street Lamp from the new Town series (which is very elegant, and includes real lights that flicker like old-fashioned lamps would have);  a Family Table & Chairs set, which is great as we are a bit short of tables;  a Garden Decorating set, which the Prickles and Bouquet families have already claimed parts of;  and a second-hand bathroom set.  This bathroom set is really cool as it comes with a section of tiled floor, a shower curtain and a little cupboard, as well as more or less all the pieces the Country Bathroom set comes with.

I suspect this may be a retired set called the Cottage Bathroom set.  There may be a couple of little pieces missing, but nothing important, and it is in great condition.  I am very happy with it!

Finally, the one present I didn't have in the first picture was this lovely new cushion:

If you are on the Sylvanian Families Forum, or if you read my daughter's blog, you may remember a while ago we won one of these cushions (with different pictures on it).  So imagine how happy I was to unwrap this one on Christmas Day!  They are going to make a gorgeous matching set...

Wow, this turned out to be quite a long post!  Thanks for reading (if you have made it this far!)

I really appreciate all those people who read and comment on my blog.  It's nice to know there are others who share this funny little hobby!  I hope that you and your families had as wonderful a Christmas as we did, and wish you all the best things that 2019 has to offer.
